The magnification of a digital microscope and a stereo microscope are not the same, as their "concept of magnification" is different.

■Stereo microscope magnification
Calculate the magnification of the microscope using the formula below.
How to calculate magnification
Optical magnification = (magnification of objective lens) x (magnification of eyepiece).
Microscope magnification = optical magnification.
(For the microscope in the photo below, the objective lens magnification is 10x x the eyepiece lens magnification 10x, giving an optical magnification of 100x.)
In the case of a microscope, the monitor magnification may also be included if a camera is attached.
■Digital microscope magnification
To make it easier to understand, let's take a digital microscope with an objective lens as an example.
First, there is the method of calculation.
The optical magnification is the same as that of a stereo microscope.
How to calculate magnification
Optical magnification = (magnification of objective lens) x (magnification of lens body).
(For the digital microscope in the photo above, the magnification of the objective lens is 10x × the magnification of the lens body is 2x, and the optical magnification is 20x.)
However, the monitor magnification is entered here,
Total magnification = monitor magnification x optical magnification.
If the image sensor size is 1/2 inch and the monitor is 17 inches, the monitor magnification will be 54.

Total magnification = Monitor magnification x Total magnification = 54 x 20 = 1080x.
In other words, if the monitor size or image sensor size changes, the magnification will also change.
(If you look at each manufacturer's catalog, you will always see something like "equivalent to XX inch monitor".)

Although the calculations are complex, the idea is very simple.
In the digital microscope pictured below, 1mm is displayed as 40mm on the monitor.
This simply means 40x.
