It is very easy to think about the overall magnification of a digital microscope.
If a 1mm object becomes 10mm on the monitor, it is "10x".
However, calculating the total magnification is a little complicated because it involves not only the optical magnification (lens scale) but also the size of the camera's image sensor and the number of inches of the monitor.
The calculation method is as follows.
Total magnification = monitor magnification x optical magnification (lens scale)
Calculate the monitor magnification using the formula below.
Monitor magnification = (number of monitor inches x 25.4mm) / image sensor size
*Image sensor size is 6mm (1/3 camera), 7mm (1/2.5 camera), 8mm (1/2 camera).
If you attach a 1/2 inch camera to the lens shown in the photo on above and observe it on a 17 inch monitor,
Monitor magnification = (17 x 25.4) / 8 = 54
Total magnification = 54 x 4 = 216 times
If auxiliary lenses, lens barrels, rear converters, lenses, etc. are added to this, their magnifications are further multiplied.
If you attach a 1/2-inch camera to a lens with a 0.5x lens barrel (zoom lens SDS-M) shown in the photo on the right and observe it on a 17-inch monitor,
Monitor magnification = (17 x 25.4) / 8 = 54
Total magnification = 54 x 4 x 0.5 (lens barrel magnification) = 108x
■How to indicate the field of view of saved images
Our measurement software MF Ship allows you to display the scale.
The magnification of a digital microscope has many parameters, and it becomes complicated when writing the conditions in a report, etc.
Therefore, instead of the magnification, save the scale as shown in the photo on above.
This will allow you to determine the general field of view of the image.
